( interview kento & shinichi for owari no seraph musical - entame tv )

The very popular series that has already sold over 5 million copies, Owari no Seraph, has become a long-awaited musical, to be staged from February 4th on at the AiiA 2.5 Theater in Tokyo. This work was originally serialised in Jump SQ from October 2012 on and has been published the next year in both manga and novel form. With the popular element of dark fantasy, of a world ruled by vampires, it's become a work that people are hoping to see expand even further from now on.
We've spoken with Ono Kento, who plays Ichinose Guren, and Hashimoto Shinichi, who plays Saotome Yoichi in Owari no Seraph The Musical, about the highlights of the play.
Q: Please tell us about the story of Owari no Seraph The Musical.
Ono: To put it in a way that's easy to understand, the story is about getting rid of vampires. (laughs) The script is true to the manga and anime, so I think that the people who have seen or read the series before will easily understand the contents of the play.
Hashimoto: Yuuichirou (Sano Gaku) and Mikaela (Suzuki Katsuhiko) are the center of the story. They each have feelings for their family and comrades, I think the story and the characters revolve around that idea.
Q: Please tell us about the roles you play.
Ono: My role is Ichinose Guren, the Lieutenant Colonel. A character who's very much the ore-sama type*, always having a condescending attitude. But he also has a part of him that thinks about his comrades and a kind side to him. It's a character who has both the strictness and affection of a teacher at school about him.
(*note: in the sense that he seems very full of himself, confident, etc.)
Hashimoto:I play Saotome Yoichi, one of Yuuichirou's comrades and a character who's Yuuichirou's first friend. Since he's a cowardly bullied child, he's not the type who easily makes friends, but that changes when he meets Yuuichirou. Although he seems frail, he actually has a strong heart.
Q: Please tell us about the atmosphere during practice and your co-stars.
Ono: The two of us are the same age at 26 years old, and above us is Seijiro-san (Nakamura) at 35 years old. Since we're the second rank when it comes to age, which often isn't the case in rehearsal spaces, it's a valuable experience. I want to put on a face similar to my role on top of the stage so I can try and lead everyone on stage.
Hashimoto: Although we're still at the beginning of practice and have quite some way to go, I think we can carry it out with a good atmosphere. Since Seijiro-san is a very frank person. (laughs) I think that thanks to that, the atmosphere in the practice hall has gotten good.
Q: Please tell us about the highlights of the play.
Ono: Until now there have been a manga and an anime, and now it's being made into a stage play. I think that things like the set and the songs really turn it into the real Seraph world. I'd like for everyone to come to see those parts of the play.
Hashimoto: The original work shows a world disconnected from reality with a battle between humans and vampires. I think that things like the action scenes, music and dance really express that world. Beautiful parts of real human life like family and comrades, plus the entertainment factor.. since things like that are shown along with the way the characters' emotions move and change, I'd like everyone to pay attention to that.
Q: Please give us a last message.
Ono: I think there might be various opinions since the original work exists, but we'll make sure to work hard and thoroughly in order to make a world like Owari no Seraph's that everyone can enjoy. Please make sure to come to the theatre to see it. We're looking forward to seeing you.
Hashimoto: We're practicing very hard in order to be able to finely show the psychological parts of it all. Because the original work shows love towards family and comrades very well, I'd like to make it a work where after it's done the face of a loved one comes to everyone's minds. Please look forward to it.
